Donald Trump's Election Is White People's Fault And It's On White People To Fight Against It

Let’s start this off with one unequivocal fact that you absolutely will not sway me from.

EVERY. SINGLE. TRUMP. VOTER. IS. RACIST. AND. BIGOTED.

There is no argument. It doesn’t matter if they’re “hood-wearing klansman” racist or a “clutch your purse whenever I walk by brown people” racist. It doesn’t matter if they’re “all faggots are going to hell” bigoted or “I just don’t feel comfortable with gay people getting married” bigoted. It doesn’t matter if your reason for trump was because you’re rich and wanted lower taxes or because you thought Hillary has a squad of Panamanian hitmen on retainer. If you could take your ballot and mark it for Trump, that means the rights and protections of minorities of all shades and orientations did not matter to you. If you can look past all the racist, bigoted comments he made, and his campaign made, and the history of his vice-presidential candidate and his advisors, and still vote him for president, then YOU ARE RACIST AND BIGOTED.

No matter how you slice it, Trump was elected on the backsof racist white people. Trump lost all minority demographics resoundingly, but he won the white vote across every demographic.

Old white people? Trump. Young white people? Trump. Uneducated Whites? Trump. Educated Whites? Trump? White men? Trump.  White Women? Trump.

There is no denying it. There is no arguing around it. This is real. This is what happened. The majority of white people in this country are racist and bigoted. The president-elect is a racist and bigot.

This cannot be forgotten, this cannot be swept under the rug. We cannot allow Donald Trump to be looked at as a normal republican president. We cannot let it be OK to support a man who is going to appoint a Supreme Court Justice to repeal the Voting Rights Act and Roe v Wade, that’s going to leave 20 million without insurance as he repeals Obamacare, that’s going to leave domestic and foreign policy to his Vice-President who wants women to have mandatory burials for aborted fetuses and advocates “Conversion Therapy”, that is going to name one of the foremost climate skeptics to lead the EPA transition team, and one of the heads of JP Morgan during the 2008 financial crises as the Secretary of the Treasury, that wants to name his Director of Homeland Security a man who says Black LivesMatter and ISIS are forming an alliance to destroy America.

There is no sitting back and hoping for the best, there is only unifying against him and his racist supporters at every turn. If Trump and his presidency are normalized, then he won’t lose any of his supporters, because they’d only be emboldened, and all those Gary Johnson voters the majority of which were #NeverTrump republicans, will not feel the need to oppose him any longer, and then his lock on the electoral college becomes unbeatable. Remember, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, by almost 3 million, but her geography sucked. And with four years of Republicans being able to eliminate every last protection for minority voters, voter suppression for the 2020 election will be unbearable, and the Democrats demographic advantage will once again not be worth a damn thing.

So with all that, my plea is this: fight back at every turn. Fight back against Donald Trump, fight back against his racist supporters. Don’t allow his rhetoric to become normalized. Call out your friends for that “harmless” racist or sexist or homophobic joke because this election is proof it’s not harmless.  Confront your family members, let them know that it’s not OK and you will not excuse it.

In the end, minorities in this country are going to be under attack from a bigoted, vindictive administration, and supporters whose hateful worldview has just been validated by the nation and endorsed by the president. Stand up for them, whether there are any present or not. Liberal white people have sold out minorities and their concerns before, and all this talk of “the Democratic party needs to reach out to the white working class” is just code for “we need to get more racist”. Do not let this happen. If you think America is better than this, then don’t just sit back and hope, fight back against this racist, bigoted, dumbass and his racist, bigoted, dumbass army of followers.

It may be tilting at windmills, but we gotta try.

Oh, and since white people love Martin Luther King quotes. Here’s one my personal favs:

“First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action;” who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the negro to wait until a “more convenient season.”

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”
